While dogs have been called man's best friend, I truly believe they can also be woman's best friend as well. I grew up without any siblings, so my only companions within the house were my dogs. My dogs are everything to me and I miss them terribly while I am away at college. Of course they are not human, but I have seen many characteristics in them that I have also seen in humans. I have heard my dogs cry, huff, watched them pretend to see something in a tree instead of coming when I called, get angry, open doors, smile, be ashamed, etc. I believe that many of their behaviors are overlooked; people are distracted by their "cuteness" so they are not able to figure out what is going on inside the dog's head. If you watch closely, you can almost see the thought process within the dog's head as he tries to solve the predicament he is facing. Dogs are very complex creatures and it was my goal to document that.
I started this project with the goal to document a dog's behaviors, however, I soon found myself much more compelled with their emotions specifically. Dogs have very real emotions and that should not be taken lightly. I changed my focus to attempting to capture the emotions I saw on their faces. This quickly became difficult for a couple reasons; they would not sit still and the abundance of hair on their faces often masked their face. Even with these difficultlies, I enjoyed this challenge. I wanted to do something that would cause me to think and strategize rather than just simply taking easy, quick pictures. I am happy with what I have come up with.
